What is Rhinosterisk? A. A Compilation of core components that includes Centos 5, Asterisk, Zaptel, Libpri, and Zaptel Q. Why should I use this over other products such as TrixBox? A. You shouldn't necessarily. Each product has their own advantages and disadvantages. You should choose the system thats right for you. Q. Why do we need another one of these things? A. Rhinosterisk is designed to be compatible with the latest computer hardware and has a more modern kernel (2.6.18) Rhinosterisk is built with an attempt to fing the perfect balance between being current, stable, functional and easy to use. All without taking away flexibility. Q. Can I be up and running in X minutes? A. Well you can turn on the box in 1 second and install in about 15-30 minutes. That is the most we can give. It is impractical to give an up and running time with the number of configurations available. The up and running time will be based on the complexity of your configuration and you. Q. Ok so this was produced by Rhino so will it work with my X Card? A. This system has Linux, Asterisk , And Zaptel. Any card designed to work with those components will work. This system was designed by Rhino but For the community. We hope the community will adopt this and write scripts and improvements for it. We are laying a foundation we would like to see a skyscraper as long as quality and flexibility is kept. Q. If this is just the components listed above why shouldn't I just install those components my self? A. You should, It is a good challenge and will help advance your knowledge of each component. However if you feel like getting a system up and running with the least amount of work a compiled solution like Rhinosterisk will save you time and debugging as there are dependencies and quirks involved in installing all the above components we have worked those out. http://www.rhinosterisk.com/trackback.php/20070927131503516 General Release Notes... http://www.rhinosterisk.com/article.php/20070919170621994 http://www.rhinosterisk.com/article.php/20070919170621994 Wed, 19 Sep 2007 17:06:21 -0500 http://www.rhinosterisk.com/article.php/20070919170621994#comments Project Notes General Release Notes... ####RELEASE NOTES RhinOSterisk ##### updated 09/06/2007 THIS SYSTEM CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS --Base OS: CentOS 5 with kernel 2.6.18 --Zaptel: Version 1.4.4 --Asterisk: Version 1.4.8 --Libpri: Version 1.4.1 --FreePBX: Version 2.3.0 --Rhino Package: Version 1.1.1 Default Passwords: SSH USER root PASSWORD rhino FreePBX USER admin PASSWORD rhino LICENSE: This release is a compilation of applications who's licenses vary and is released in accordance with those licenses. The Alpha release 70020913-0853 is availible for download. This version has a known issue, if your cdrom is not located in hda or hdb the script that makes the magic happen will not run. The box your installing on should have an internet connection to ensure all packages setup. if this happens you may run the script manualy by extracting build.tar.gz and running build.sh At this point all core components are built from source. You can easily modify and rebuild components in the /usr/src section.
